The Difference Between LSZH and CPR: Checking Labels and Documentation for Office Data Cables

LSZH refers to a "low-smoke, zero-halogen" construction; it does not, by itself, indicate the cable's CPR Euroclass rating. When purchasing office data cables, verify the full product code—along with the jacket specifications and the declared CPR class—and ensure you have the corresponding Declaration of Performance (DoP) for that specific product. Simply seeing "Cat6" or "Cat6A" labeled on a product is not a substitute for this documentation check.

Distinguish cable category, jacket and reaction-to-fire performance

Terms like "Cat6A," "LSZH," and "Dca" found in a quote address different criteria. The category relates to data transmission performance; the jacket description refers to material properties; and the CPR classification pertains to the declared reaction-to-fire performance. Collapsing these into a single "quality score" can obscure discrepancies between the project specifications and the actual items being quoted.

For instance, on the product family page for Nexans’ LANmark-6 U/UTP line, versions with LSZH jackets—rated Eca, Dca, and Cca—are listed as distinct items with separate product codes. This demonstrates that a line item simply labeled “LSZH cable” does not specify which exact product will be delivered. Always rely on the specific product reference (part number) provided in the offer, rather than the general product family name.

Ensure the label matches the documentation for the specific product.

Leviton’s guidance on the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) highlights the importance of the product label and the Declaration of Performance (DoP). When reviewing a purchase record, ensure you have access to the manufacturer’s current technical datasheet and the corresponding DoP. A general brand logo appearing in a sales presentation does not constitute a declaration for a specific reel of cable.

In the example of the CommScope 884050654/16 product datasheet, the LSZH specification is listed in a separate section, while the CPR classification is detailed as Dca s2, d2, a1; a link to the relevant DoP is also provided on the same page. This example applies only to that specific product and should not be interpreted as a universal classification for all CommScope cables. Do not use documentation intended for a different product reference.

This table is Quad Bilişim’s original procurement record example; it is not a certificate or proof that a regulatory check is complete. If the quoted product code differs from the code on the delivered box, matching cable colors are not enough to close the record. Keep the change justification, equivalence documentation and authorized approval together.

What does this check not replace?

This guide does not prescribe one mandatory fire classification for every office in Türkiye. Qualified project professionals must assess the building use, route, project conditions and applicable requirements. A reaction-to-fire classification is not a guarantee of how long a circuit continues operating during a fire or of the safety of an entire building.

Document verification is not a substitute for data transmission testing of the installed cabling. In addition to procurement and delivery records, data cabling test report and Cat6/Cat6A selection criteria examine these separately. For an office renovation project in Istanbul, including this list in the project scope/survey file makes it easier to track material selection alongside the scope of implementation.
