What is Microsoft 365 Copilot? Corporate Data, License and Authorization Controls
Microsoft 365 Copilot encompasses AI experiences that deliver content creation, summarization, and information working scenarios in business applications. However, it should not be assumed that every Copilot account has access to the same data or features. The experience, license, enterprise configuration and user authorizations used should be checked together; Seeing the product name alone does not tell the scope.
First identify the Copilot experience in use
Microsoft's current overview document breaks down Copilot experiences in terms of data attribution, application integration, and licensing. Scenarios where web-based chat and corporate content are used via Microsoft Graph are not the same scope. Verify in the current product documentation and administrative view that the features that appear in a particular app are available in your account.
Plan names and terms can change, so this guide does not state a fixed price or identical features for every organization. For usage-based tools, clarify consumption terms as well as licensing. A document accessible in one example is not necessarily visible to every employee.

Copilot respecting user permissions does not mean every sharing permission in the organization is already correct. Review files with excessive access separately. Access checks and answer accuracy are separate tests.
Create a structured assessment record
For example, when extracting a task list from a meeting note, write the source document, desired output format, reviewer, and any deficiencies found in the same record. Do not treat the text produced as an approved corporate decision or automatically accurate information. In scenarios that require access, examine separately what different roles can see.
