Network and Internet
What Is an Access Point and What Is It Used For?
Access point is the access point that allows wireless devices to connect to existing network. Generally connected to network switch via Ethernet and offers Wi-Fi access. What is Access point, what is the practical equivalent of the useful question for work; provide convenient coverage and access for phone, laptop and other wireless devices.
Access point, router and repeater difference
Router makes routing between different networks. Access point connects wireless clients to the network. Repeater tries to expand the coverage area by repeating existing wireless signal. A part of these functions can be found in the home-type modem-router device.
Access points connected to wired spine in the office can be evaluated in terms of capacity and management. The capacity and environment conditions of the main connection should be taken into account if the wireless repeat or mesh connection is used. Very strong signal does not mean higher application performance alone.
How to choose access point for office?
The number of users is the first evaluation headers of applications, walls of space and wireless networks used simultaneously. The compliance of client devices is also important as the Wi-Fi standard supported by the product. The speed obtained by one user is not the same as the advertised total speed.
PoE provides energy data through Ethernet cable to compatible access point. Switch's PoE standard and total power budget should be checked. Central management, guest network and VLAN support can be selection criteria in corporate use.
Settlement and coverage plan
- Determine the areas of intensively used tables and meetings.
- Review the effect of wall, metal surface and floor passages.
- Plan channel and power settings with neighboring access points.
- Separate guest access from work systems.
- After installation, do application and circulation tests on different points.
Why does wireless performance fall?
Insufficient signal, intensive channel use, old clients or numerous active devices can affect Wi-Fi performance. While the Internet subscription is fast, the wired connection to the access point can create narrow throat. The problem should be measured in both wireless and wired parts.
For example, the connection during the meeting is broken but if the idle office test goes out properly, its capacity and channel use should be examined. It reduces unnecessary investment to measure before adding new devices. The software of access points is part of the management access and support life.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Access point provide internet subscription?
No. It delivers the existing network and internet connection to wireless devices. Internet service is provided via a separate connection.
Is more access point always better?
No. The wrong channel and power plan can increase interference. The number and layout should be determined by measurement.
Does it work without PoE?
Depends on model. There are adapter options on some devices; Some require compatible PoE feeding.
What does Access point work? Choice guide for office
Access point allows devices to connect to existing local network via wireless networks. No internet subscription or modem alone. Router focuses on the task of access point wireless access while driving traffic between different networks; some devices can do multiple tasks together.
The range expander is used to extend the current wireless signal. Access point location in office, wired connection, PoE feeding and simultaneous client capacity should be planned together. The higher announced wireless speed does not mean that the speed is guaranteed for each user.
- Set applications such as number of users and meeting, file transfer.
- Make layout assessment for walls, floors and parasite resources.
- Separate guest network and corporate network access.
- Check the switch PoE budget, management requirement and license conditions of the model.
