Yandex Object Storage: S3 Object Storage and Archives
Yandex Object Storage stores data as buckets and objects and is compatible with the Amazon S3 API. It can be considered for application files, archives and targets for suitable backup software; it is not the same as a NAS service providing a shared folder for users.

Business need and product selection
First identify how data will be accessed: through an application API, by users sharing files, or only occasionally as an archive? Storage class, request count, outbound data and retention policy affect total cost. Versioning preserves previous object copies; Object Lock is intended to restrict deletion or overwriting of object versions with appropriate settings. Neither replaces access and recovery design.
Planning record
Fill-in record: dataset / owner / initial size / monthly growth / read-write frequency / target application / retention period / deletion authority / recovery owner. Open bucket access only as far as necessary; do not assume public access is required. Verify S3 compatibility for the operations your application actually uses.
Is Object Storage a backup solution on its own?
The storage target and the backup process are separate. Copying a file to a bucket is not a complete backup service without scheduling, separate access rights, retention policy and a recovery workflow. Assess Cloud Backup for protection of an entire VM, and your application's supported S3 integration for application files.
