Yandex Compute Cloud: Virtual Servers and Resource Planning

Yandex Compute Cloud provides virtual machines and their associated disk resources for applications. For businesses moving servers to the cloud, the starting point is not just the vCPU count, but the application's memory, disk, network and operating-system requirements.

Business need and product selection

Web applications, development environments and independent server workloads need different resource profiles. Record peak-time measurements, disk latency and dependence on a single server as well as average consumption. Creating a VM does not automatically make an application highly available; networking, the data layer, monitoring and backup need separate design. Management options include the console, CLI, API and tools such as Terraform.

Planning record

Example needs record: workload: internal business application; current measurements: CPU/RAM/disk charts for the last 30 days; connections: database and office network; maintenance window: defined by the business; acceptance criterion: users can complete their existing workflow. This is not a project reference or a ready-made resource quotation.

How should you choose between a virtual machine and a managed service?

A virtual machine offers flexibility when you want to manage the operating system and application layer yourself. If you only need a database or container platform, assess the relevant managed service separately. Licensing, updates, access management and recovery responsibilities vary with the choice. Set these tasks out in writing when discussing the scope with Quad.
